54% of global IT and business professionals say that their iPad has partly replaced their laptop, while a further 16% say it has completely replaced their laptop, according to [download page] a survey released in January 2012 by IDG Connect. Adoption of the iPad has also curtailed usage of other devices: 43% say it has partly replaced their smartphone, while about one-third say it has partly replaced their PC, TV/DVD player, and MP3 player. The average number of promotional email campaigns set by top retailers to each of their subscribers reached a peak of 177 in 2011, representing a 16% increase from 152 in 2010, and a 51% rise from 2008 levels, according to Chad White, research director at Responsys and author of the Retail Email Blog. On average, retailers sent their subscribers nearly 15 email campaigns a month, with February being the slowest month at just over 12 campaigns, and December the busiest at almost 22. December was also among the fastest-growing months, on par with November with 20% year-over-year over growth, and slightly behind March (+21%).

US and Canadian consumers display high degree of uncertainty about sharing their personal data with companies, according to an October 2011 survey from LoyaltyOne. Almost nine in 10 (88%) consumers say they feel companies are primarily collecting personal information for their own benefit, and 85% are often concerned about how much of their personal information is held by others.

In June 2011, 734.2 million people visited Facebook.com globally, an increase of 33% from the previous year.

Globally, only eight in 10 (81%) commercial emails reached their intended inbox in the first half of 2011, according to a study released in September 2011 by ReturnPath. Results from “The Global Email Deliverability Benchmark Report” indicate the remaining roughly one in five emails that do not reach the inbox wind up either in a spam/junk folder (7%) or are blocked by ISP-level filtering (12%).

While the majority of consumers around the world (83%) say that it is important that companies implement programs to improve the environment, only 22% say they will pay more for an eco-friendly product, according to The Nielsen Company’s 2011 Global Online Environment & Sustainability Survey of more than 25,000 internet respondents in 51 countries.
