Website visitors are also heavier buyers within a brand's product category, spending 53% more category dollars than non-visitors. ’11 CPG Coupon Redemption, Savings Up Y-O-Y

nch-marketing-total-us-cpg-coupon-redemption-jan12.gifUS consumers redeemed 3.5 billion CPG coupons in 2011, representing a 6.1% increase from 3.3 billion in 2010 and a 9% rise from 3.2 billion in 2009, according to a study released in January 2012 by NCH. In addition, CPG coupon redemption in 2011 represented a significant 34.6% jump from 2.6 billion CPG coupons redeemed in 2007 and 2008. Agencies Say Spot TV Top Ad Medium of Choice in Q4 ’11

Digital was second, cited by 31% of agencies, down 9% from Q3, followed by spot radio (8%). Spot TV (broadcast) continues to be an area of interest, with 28% of those surveyed saying they are more focused on it than a year ago, up 12% from Q4 2010. Read more »

CPG Coupon Distribution Down in ’11, but Overall Trend Remains Up

The number of CPG coupons distributed in the US last year via all media totaled 305 billion, down from 332 billion in 2010 and 311 million in 2009, but up from 285 billion in 2007. Read more »

Other platforms experiencing a year-over-year fall in usage among the Inc. 500 include message/bulletin boards, from 33% to 15%, online video, from 33% to 24%, and podcasting, from 16% to 6%. Retailers See E-Commerce as Main Digital Platform Across Channels

National TV Sports Ad Spend Up 6% in ’11

Measuring ad spend during sporting events on network and cable TV from Q4 2010 through Q3 2011, Nielsen found that cable has an increasing share of those ad dollars, growing 37.3% year-over-year. US Consumers Shifting from Feature Phones to Smartphones

google-phone-ownership-jan12.gifThe proportion of consumers in the US who own a smartphone is almost on par with the proportion owning a feature phone, according to [pdf] a report released in January 2012 by Google. 38% of US consumers responding to Phase 2 of the survey, conducted in September and October 2011, reported ownership of a smartphone, up 22.5% from 31% of respondents to Phase 1 of the survey, conducted in January and February 2011.
