CMOs Using Marketing Analytics Sparingly; Most Forgo Formal Evaluation of Quality

The percentage of projects estimated by CMOs to be using marketing analytics has dropped to 29% from 35% at this time last year, while two-thirds of CMOs now say their company doesn't formally evaluate the quality of marketing analytics, up from 53.2% last year. Google+ Said to Top Twitter in Mobile App Popularity Around the World

Results from the survey, which took place during Q2 in 31 countries and counted 160,000 respondents, indicate that 30% of smartphone owners claimed to have used the Google+ mobile app in the past month, compared to 22% for Twitter's app. Read more »

The latest biannual CMO Survey [pdf] from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business finds that CMOs are not immune: according to the study, 66.4% said they feel pressure from their CEO or Board to prove the value of marketing. While that monthly figure works out to less than 15 emails a day (which some might argue isn't too many to sift through), the daily count is likely to be higher on traditional workdays, as weekends typically see a lower volume of activity. A new study [download page] from VideoHub indicates that during the first quarter, average viewability for online video ads in the US was 83%, although rates varied widely among properties, from 43% on the low end to 94% on the high end. Broadcast TV sites fared best (89% on average) among property categories, with networks and exchanges (73%) bringing up the rear. Read more »
