Respondents - from a mix of B2C and B2B companies primarily headquartered in North America - evaluated their spending plans across a variety of programs. According to the researcher, the year's most memorable new commercials leveraged certain principles that generally boost memorability: the use of emotion to create connections; the inclusion of "attention-grabbing sights and sounds;" and consistency in creative style. US Online Ad Revenues Grow 15% Y-O-Y in Q3, Set Yet Another Peak

IAB-Q3-Online-Ad-Revenues-2001-2013-Dec2013Online ad revenues continue to climb to new heights, growing 15% year-over-year in Q3 from $9.26 billion to $10.69 billion, according to the latest quarterly revenue report from the Interactive Advertising Bureau and PricewaterhouseCoopers. That makes Q3 the latest record-setting quarter, up from the previous peak of $10.31 billion set in the fourth quarter of 2012. The record won't stand for long, though: if current growth trends continue, online ad revenues could approach $12 billion during the fourth quarter of this year. Read more »

Majority of Higher-Income Hispanic Parents Own a Tablet

NorthwesternNCFL-Hispanic-Parents-Mobile-Access-by-Income-Dec2013Among Hispanic parents of 0-8-year-olds, 54% of those with incomes of at least $75,000 per year own an iPad or other tablet, per recently-released survey results [pdf] from Northwestern University and the National Center for Families Learning. Tablet adoption is significantly lower among middle-income ($25-75k; 31%) and lower-income (<$25k; 19%) Hispanic parents, however those figures very likely understate current penetration rates. That's because the survey was conducted in late 2012, and national tablet adoption rates have grown rapidly since then. Read more »

After posting strong year-over-year growth rates during key dates early on, comScore expected that consumers would continue their strong spending during the week leading up to Christmas Day, but those expectations failed to materialize. As such, the growth rate for the holiday season through December 22nd stood at 10%. Even so, IBM reports a robust 16.5% increase in online sales on Christmas Day. Read more »

Newzoo-US-Gaming-Market-Size-by-Screen-Dec2013170 million Americans play videogames, and 60% of those gamers spend money doing so, resulting in an estimated $20.5 billion in spending by the end of this year, according to a report from Newzoo. More than 60% of gaming revenues will have been generated digitally, per the study, as American gamers increasingly use a combination of screens to play. In fact, 24% of gamers (or 49 million Americans) are multi-screen gamers, playing on TVs, computers, personal devices (feature phones and smartphones) and "floating screens" (tablets and handheld consoles). As always, it's important to remember that these are desktop-only figures; until further notice, Google continues to have the bigger overall audience when factoring in mobile counts. Meanwhile, the top-gaining site categories aren't surprising: retail categories occupied 6 of the top 10, with 2 services categories - e-cards and coupons - also in the mix. Read more »
