Yahoo Core Search Queries Drop 13% in June

comscore-total-core-search-query-jun-11-july-2011.JPGCore search queries conducted by US web users on Yahoo dropped 13%, from almost 3.79 billion in May 2011 to about 3.28 billion in June 2011, according to comScore qSearch data. Yahoo retained its number two ranking among US search providers for core search queries.

Microsoft Core Search Queries Rise 5%

Although Microsoft (including the Bing search engine) remained well behind Yahoo in third place with about 2.65 billion core search queries, this represented a 5% hike from 2.52 billion the previous month. Search leader Google remained close to flat with 12.2 billion, while total core search queries fell 3%, from 19.27 billion to 18.72 billion.

Google Grows Total Core Search Share

comscore-total-core-search-share-jun-11-july-20111.JPGWhile there were not tremendous changes in month-over-month total core search share figures in June, Google extended its lead 2%, from 63.3% to 64.5%. Second place Yahoo saw its share dip 11%, from 19.6% to 17.5%. Third place Microsoft grew its total core search share almost 8%, from 13.1% to 14.1%.

comscore-explicit-core-search-query-jun-11-july-2011.JPGIn addition to total core search queries declining 2%, from 17 billion to 16.7 billion, four of the top five search providers saw the total number of explicit core search queries conducted decline, as well. Google lost 2%, going from 11.15 billion to 10.95 billion, while Yahoo also lost 2%, going from 2.71 billion to 2.65 billion.

Fourth place Ask Network and fifth place AOL, Inc. saw their relatively small totals drop 5% and 6%, respectively, while Microsoft remained essentially flat at about 2.4 billion. There were no significant changes in core search share, with Google maintaining the lead with a flat 65.5% share.

Bing-powered Searches Slightly Increase

In June, 67.6% of searches carried organic search results from Google (down slightly from 67.8% in May) while 26.6% of searches (including those performed on Yahoo) were powered by Bing (up slightly from 26.5% in May).

Google, Microsoft Gain Total Core Search Share from June 2010

Looking at comScore total core search share and query results from June 2010, Google has increased its share 3% from 62.6%. More impressively, Microsoft has grown its share 11% from 12.7. These providers grew their total core search shares partially at the expense of Yahoo, whose share shrank 8% from 18.9%.

In terms of total core search queries, Microsoft increased its total 14% from about 2.1 billion. Google had even better 17% growth from 10.3 billion core search queries. Yahoo reported total core search query growth of roughly 6%, from 3.1 billion.
