Nielsen reported that online Americans conducted a total of 10.5 billion searches in July 2009, up from 10 billion in June. Despite Google’s loss of overall market share, the number of Google searches  grew 3%, from 6.6 billion searches to 6.8 billion.

Yahoo Search grew 11%, from 1.6 billion searches to 1.8 billion searches, and increased from a 16.2% share of market to an 17.1% share of market.

Microsoft’s search sites, including MSN, Windows Live and Bing - which nabbed 8.8% of the market in June - increased to a 9% share in July, with a total of 947 million searches.

The fastest growing search site from June to July was Comcast Search, which increased 41%, to capture 0.6% of the market. At the other end of the spectrum, Yellow Pages Search  month-over-month figures declined 3%.

About the data: The June and July results represent the first results published that were collected with a new Nielsen MegaView Search methodology. Because of these changes, this data - and all related search figures from Nielsen - cannot be trended with results that were collected by the company before June 2009.
