Top 10 PC Games, Console Stats for 2009

World of Warcraft, The Sims and RuneScape were among the top 10 PC game titles in the US in 2009, while the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2 were the video game consoles played most often during the first three quarters of the year, according to the annual video-game “top 10″ list from The Nielsen Company

The list of top PC games reveals that massively multiplayer online war and fantasy games (MMOGs) remain extremely popular, as do first-person shooting titles. World of Warcraft logged an average of 683 minutes played per week per user, while fantasy game RuneScape saw 496 minues per user.

The Sims life simulation game also continues to hold its own among a proliferation of war-themed offerings.

Among the top video consoles used, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2 and Wii were, by a large margin, the top video game consoles measured in percentage of usage minutes.

Separate PC-game research from September of 2009 by the NPD Group similarly found that MMOG games - including Aion, Champions Online, and World of Warcraft - as well as various versions of The Sims - dominated the list of top-selling software titles for the month.
