Pay-TV Cord-Cutting Accelerates in 2015

    Notes: The largest multichannel video providers – representing about 95% of the pay-TV subscriber market – shed almost 385,000 subscribers in 2015, reports LRG. That was roughly triple the number of losses from 2014, and means that the top providers have now lost rather than gained subscribers over the past 5 years (factoring in gains in 2011 and 2012).

    It’s the opposite trend for the top broadband providers, which have added close to 3 million or more subscribers each year this decade.

    All told, the number of broadband subscribers continues to catch up to the number of pay-TV subscribers, numbering roughly 99 million and 96 million, respectively.
