j2Global-Popular-Social-Mobile-Apps-for-SMBs-Jan2014Facebook is the only mobile social application that a majority of SMBs have either used or plan to adopt this year, according to [pdf] recent survey results from j2 Global. The survey asked respondents which of 6 specific apps they had used or plan to for business development and marketing, finding that Twitter was a fairly distant second, cited by 43% of respondents to Facebook’s 70%. YouTube was next, at roughly one-third of respondents.

Newer platforms Instagram (16%) and Snapchat (2.5%) haven’t quite caught the eye of SMBs to the same extent, while FourSquare (6%) also doesn’t appear to be very popular. (Roughly one-quarter of the respondents cited “other” applications, with LinkedIn, Pinterest and Google+ presumably in the mix.)

The survey also asked respondents to indicate which of 6 marketing areas will be their top priority this year. It’s hard to draw too many conclusions from the data, given that 4 of the options listed were related to email marketing. Interestingly enough, though, respondents appear to be more focused on adopting email marketing automation (23.7%) than mobile marketing best practices (13.4%).

About the Data: The data is based on 1,647 responses from j2 Global customers.
