Half of Americans Aged 12+ Listen to Online Radio Weekly; 1 in 8 to Podcasts

    Notes: 57% of Americans aged 12 and older this year report listening to online radio on a monthly basis, and 88% of those listeners (50% of respondents overall) listen on a weekly basis, per the latest edition of the annual Infinite Dial report. Both monthly and weekly online radio listening have grown across age groups, with weekly reach up by a third among the 55+ group (24%, from 18%).

    Meanwhile, 36% of respondents this year report having ever listened to a podcast, with 21% doing so a monthly basis (up from 17% last year) and 13% on a weekly basis (up from 10% last year). The report shows a sizable jump in monthly podcast listening among the 25-54 demographic (24% this year, up from 19% last year), and also notes that men (24%) are considerably more likely than women (18%) to have listened to a podcast in the last month.

        About the Data: The results are based on a national telephone survey conducted in January and February 2016 of 2,001 people aged 12 and older. Interviews were 52% land line and 48% cell phone, and the survey was offered in both English and Spanish.
