Online Americans Get Greener

comscore-top10-gaining-web-categories-bypercent-change-april11-may11.gifFor the second straight month, the community-green category experienced the most month-over-month growth in unique US web visitors during April 2011, according to [pdf] comScore Media Metrix data. More than 26 million Americans visited the category during the month, an impressive 32% gain compared to almost 20 million in March.

Shine Green Popularity Explodes

Within the green-community category, Shine Green stood out with both the most visitors (7.9 million) and highest month-over-month visitor growth (364%). Planet Green, the number one green-community site in March, fell to number two in April but still boosted its visitor total 15% to 3.3 million.

Following were Care2.com with 2 million (up 11%) and Mother Nature Network with 1.8 million (up 24%). In addition, EnergyGuide.com grew 6% to 918,000 visitors, while EPA.gov saw 916,000 (up 10%).

Entertainment News Visitors Reach 100M

In what comScore says was a burst of interest in last month’s royal wedding, an all-time high of 100 million Americans visited entertainment news sites, up 5% from 95.9 million in March. Securing the top spot with 29.1 million visitors was omg! (up 23%), followed by TMZ with 15 million, BuzzMedia Entertainment with 13.1 million (up 2%) and People with 12.8 million.

Furthermore, Zimbio attracted nearly 10.2 million visitors (up 15%), followed by CNN Entertainment with 9.4 million and E Online with 8.3 million (up 10%).

Yahoo Stays on Top

comscore-top-properties-apr-11-may-20111.jpgYahoo sites ranked as the number one property in April for the second straight month with 187.4 million visitors, followed by Microsoft sites with 178.9 million and Google sites with 175.9 million. Netflix.com jumped six positions to rank #36 overall with 28.6 million visitors, while CareerBuilder LLC earned a spot on the list at #43 with 24.9 million visitors.

As mentioned above,Yahoo sites ranked as the #1 property in March with 179.5 million visitors, followed by Google sites with 176.8 million and Microsoft sites with 176.4 million. Sites new to the top 50 in March included FoxNews.com (#41), Time Warner (#49) and BuzzMedia (#50).

Google Reaches More than 9 in 10 Online Americans

comscore-adfocus-apr-11-may-2011.jpgGoogle Ad Network led the April Ad Focus ranking with a reach of 91.6% of Americans online, followed by Yahoo sites (87.4%), Yahoo Network Plus (83.6%) and AOL Advertising (83.6%).

Google Ad Network also led the March Ad Focus ranking with a reach of 91.7% of Americans online, followed by Yahoo sites (84.4%), Yahoo Network Plus (83.9%) and AOL Advertising (83.8%).
