22% of Americans Have Closed An Account Due to Data Privacy Concerns

    Notes: Some 22% of US consumers report having closed an account due to data-privacy concerns, according to an Aimia survey. Despite that, 6 in 10 are willing to share their information in exchange for offers and discounts (top-2 box score on a 10-point scale). Separately, when asked which institutions they’re comfortable with handling their personal data, 82% ranked banks in their top 4 (of 10 measured), with supermarkets (64%) and mobile phone providers (56%) next.

        About the Data: The international Aimia Loyalty Lens survey was commissioned by Aimia and fielded by Research Now between June and July 2014.

        The study surveyed 24,335 respondents in 10 international markets: United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Germany, France, Canada, United States, Australia, India, and the Middle East: In all markets, apart from the Middle East and India, the sample sizes are all nationally representative. Because of the online nature of the survey there is some bias towards younger, higher income groups in the Middle East and Indian markets.
