Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Up were the top three theatrical movie releases in the US and Canada through November 2009, according to the yearly “top 10” list recently released by The Nielsen Company.

The latest Transformers title took in a total of $402 million through November 30, 2009, while the most recent film in the Harry Potter series took in close to $302 million.

Other top titles reflected America’s continued interest in diverse genres such as science fiction, action/aventure, fantasy, and comedy.

Top-Selling DVDs

Nielsen also released its list of the top 10 best selling DVD titles, which featured two of the top-three theatrical releases as top-three DVDs as well. Twilight, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Up topped the list of best-selling DVDs (excluding Wal-Mart sales) through November 29, 2009.

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and 2008 Batman blockbuster The Dark Knight rounded out the top DVDs for the year:
