Apple announced it sold its one millionth iPhone 3G on Sunday, just three days after its Friday launch in 21 countries, reports MarketingVox. The original iPhone hit its one millionth sale 74 days after launch.

What’s more, the Apple App Store recorded over 10 million downloads for iPhone and iPod touch applications.

“The App Store is a grand slam, with a staggering 10 million applications downloaded in just three days,” said Apple CEO Steve Jobs. “Developers have created some extraordinary applications, and the App Store can wirelessly deliver them to every iPhone and iPod touch user instantly.”

Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, who estimated that Apple would sell one million 3Gs by July 28, released the results of a survey of Apple buyers:

Notably, 39% of current iPhone buyers are primarily PC users, versus 25% of first-generation iPhone buyers. According to ZDNet, the figures suggest Apple’s footprint is growing among PC die-hards.

Preceding the launch of the 3G, surveys were released to track consumer interest in the less-expensive iPhone unit. Last month’s Consumer Behavior Report from PriceGrabber found that while most don’t plan to buy an iPhone, the 3G’s lower price may change their minds.

And price wasn’t the only factor of the 3G’s debut success. Nielsen and Hitwise found consumers are also interested in its network, applications and carrier options. A measurement of buzz found one in 100 new blog posts mentioned the iPhone.

The 3G’s simultaneous launch in other countries also helped boost numbers: the iPhone is considered a “top 10 device,” particularly in Western Europe.
