Web Coupons Contain Consumer Info
As reported by the New York Times, internet-based coupons that are printed out or sent to consumer mobile phones increasingly contain large volumes of customer information in their barcodes. This can include identification about the customer, internet address, Facebook page information and the search terms the customer used to find the coupon. Both retailers and brand marketers use this data to create dossiers on the shopping habits and preferences of individual customers.
