    Notes: Pay-TV penetration stands at 83% of US households this year, reports LRG, based on its latest survey of 1,000+ adults. Pay-TV penetration has been on the decline this decade, down from 87% in 2010, although it remains up from the 81% registered in 2005. The total number of subscribers this year is in fact on par with the number in 2010, but occupied housing additions over the past 5 years means that the penetration rate is down.

    In other highlights from the report:

    • Renters living in TV households are about twice as likely as owners to not subscribe to a pay-TV service (23% vs. 12%);
    • Roughly 1 in 5 respondents who moved in the past year do not subscribe to a pay-TV service;
    • More than 6 in 10 (62% of) households not subscribing to a pay-TV service subscribe to a subscription video-on-demand service.

        About the Data: The 2015 results are based on a telephone survey of 1,222 adults age 18+ from throughout the continental US that was conducted in June 2015. The random sample of respondents (including 220 cell phone calls) was distributed and weighted to best reflect the demographic and geographic make-up of the US. The overall sample has a statistical margin of error of +/- 2.8%.
